PRP is derived from whole blood. During your visit, a small amount of blood is drawn from you (similar to a basic blood test). Your blood is then placed into a centrifuge. During the centrifugation process, the red blood cells, white blood cells, and other inflammatory cytokines are separated from plasma, which contains platelets along with several platelet derived growth factors. Once the platelet-rich Fibrin is separated, it is drawn up into a syringe and injected directly into the scar tissue.
The beneficial growth factors in platelets help with the creation of new blood vessels while also regenerating tissues. What this does is improve the texture of your skin. PRP injections minimizes or eliminates scars by stimulating connective tissue cells and epidermal cells. When these skin-related cells are produced in a greater quantity, new collagen is created reducing the appearance of scar tissue.
